If you have ever wondered how to keep your flowers for longer, just ask Clinton Neeson from Rococo Flowers who suggests:
If your looking for a large headed long stem rose go for an import as size id their strength however if you think a fragrant rose is more appropriate then a locally grown garden rose is best.
Always give the stems a cut at a 45 degree angle about half an inch from the end, the stem will start to close over between leaving your florist and being placed in a vase at home. The angle comes into play due to the fact that if you cut the stem at a flat angle it will sit directly onto the bottom of the vase making it hard to drink.
As your roses open gently pick back the petals that have started to wilt, leaving them on can generate bacteria that will sink into the head making it deteriorate quicker.
Make sure your roses are going into a clean vase that can accommodate their height and change your water every two days. Murky water is full of oxygen-depriving nasties that will not only smell unpleasant but quicken their decline.
Think outside the box, if your partner doesn’t love red roses in general they’re not likely too start on Valentines Day. Bouquets that feature beautiful fragrant roses along with mixed seasonal blooms are a great alternative to a traditional arrangement.
There is no magic trick to making roses last a month but if you look after them you should be able to enjoy your them for a good seven days.
