Creative Director Kim Jones draws inspiration from the Eternal City in his newest Fendi Collection
The timelessness of the historical streets of Rome is what inspired Creative Director Kim Jones for Fendi Couture Spring/Summer 2022. Combining classical techniques, cutting-edge designs, and modern craftsmanship, the clothing transcends time. Hand-embroidered tights cling to the model’s skin underneath a high-low cape of ghostly organza draping. An original corseted top illuminated with traditional beading elegantly outlines the model’s figure. Two looks later, the classical statues located outside of Fendi’s Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana are hand-painted in striking chiaroscuro onto a rich velvet dress that flows across the black runway. This same technique is applied throughout the collection, resulting in numerous mesmerizing garments that harmonize the past and present by combining ancient art with futuristic techniques.
